All of her babies are doing pretty good except for one. she was one of the stronger ones 2 weeks ago and today she is so weak. she still has her belly belly but just not moving around much, I dont know what to do with her she has been this way for 3n days now. I just want for her to survive.

I would take it to the vet and keep up with the liver mix, It worked wonders for my pup. I did have to take him to the vet and she told me he was week but could survive if I had the will, and I did. Wishing you the best.:aimeeyork

Tube feeding

I would first have your veterinarian demonstrate tube feeding first because they can answer any questions you might have. Bring your cell phone with you to video record the whole process for future reference in case you forget or by a video too. Always remember not to feed a chilled puppy. Try glucose to boost energy first to suckle. If the energy is up, than bottle feed. Poor suckle reflex than you need to tube feed. Tube feeding is good because it decreases there gas intake and reduces a extended abdomen but it could be a deadly risk if you don't learn the technique.

I have never bottle fed a puppy and believe in tube feeding as it is faster and you know they are getting enough and sometimes they will start nursing as they get stronger but mostly you end up tubing them for three to four weeks........I loved it as I formed a special bond with the pup. it is easy to do and if you give me your phone number I can help you but first you must go to the vet to get a small tube.......the smallest they have.......I think they use them for AI and I used Mamalact..spelling not exact but your vet should have something that can be used as a formula.....mine was a powder and I had to mix it .......I would be glad to help you out if you need it......your vet can give you a quick lesson in tube feeding .......just remember to put it in the mixture first for moisture and then glide it along the right side of the mouth......if the pup gags or makes noises then it is in the wrong place.......they usually help to glide it along as they know it is food......it is so hard to explain in a letter......I have free calling if you like.....
good luck

Beef Liver Remedy For Fading Puppies

Large piece of Beef Liver - boil slowly in a small amount of water (5 minutes or
until the blood comes out).

Let cool-drain the liquid ONLY; 4 drops into a dropper and feed the weak puppy.

First dosage every 2 hours for 12 hours, then every 4 hours. Continue for however long needed until the puppy is thriving on its own.

Don't feed or use the liver itself, it is far too rich; use only the liquid

hope this helps

If your puppy is 4 weeks old she is ready for some good solid puppy food. You need to get a good dry puppy kibble and grind it up and let her start eating that. You can even mix a little canned food in with it to make it a little moist.

I tried tub feeding one time it was so scarey to do, it was the middle of the night pup was only 2days old, all I had was yt to help me I had been up for 30 hrs trying to save her. But she died anyway. I thought I got it in her lungs, I said never again but I found out later I did everything right she was jsut too far gone.Still it is easy to get the tube down the wrong way if your not careful .. at least thats what my vet said. I have never tried it again.I don't even breed anymore now but this thread comes in my eamils still. Tubing is the surest way to know thay are getting food with a sick pup I found out later on. Welcome to yt by the way I see you are new. I hope you like it here, I have learned a lot here and there are some really great breeders here too. Thay sure helped me out in the wee hours of the morning. Blessings

update on thread

Hello eveyone, its been a while, I had major back surgery on apirl 20 th 2009. I had to stop breeding as I could not take care of me let alone my babies for 6 months... No bend No lift No swist for 6 months... Max lived and is doing well in his new home with Jenny. We still talk from time to time. I have pets now 5 all together got down to 2 at one time as I was so very sick. But glad to be back. I do miss breeding I can not lie, well most of it, don't miss the bad times like this was. But over all it was great. I know how hard a breeders job is thats for sure. I just wanted to say thank you so much for being there for me when I needed you:thumbup: You guys are great! I am greatful for all you did for me and much wiser as well now. I missed you all so much and am sorry it has taken so long for me to get back to yorkie talk.. My surgery did not work as well as we had hoped and I may have to have another one, but at least this time my disc is not blown out and it will not me an emergancy surgery. I had no idea what was in store for me but now I do and can be better prepared. As for breeding I just don't know about ever doing it again, maybe I'll just get a showdog as that was my dream all along to breed and hanlde and show my own yorkie... If or when I get 100% again I thought I would look into showing my next baby but want to learn all about the showworld first, it's something to hope for, something to dream for... we all need a dream right? I do hope I can learn more here I was all ready learning a lot about what they look for in the breed. Well I'll see you guys around thanks again! You all are so very dear to me. Blessings :)

Fading puppy or Weak Puppy: Beef Liver Remedy

I have a litter of 5 born 9/13. All healthy and thriving except for 1 little guy who weighed 4.5 oz at birth, then went to 3.4 by the next evening. Took him to my vet who checked for cleft and that's not the problem. He showed me how to tube feed and after Esbilac, then a couple of goat milk recipies, he's on undiluted goat's milk, whole milk yogurt, egg yolk and tsp. of Karo mixture. Just started that at 2 pm today.
Is this live remedy to be feed alone or can it be supplemented with something else such as the above recipe? He's been at 3.8 oz for two days, but like I said, I just started this more enriched recipe this afternoon. I've just heard of this beef liver remedy this afternoon from another yorkie show person (such as myself). Thanks, Lin

weak puppy

I haven't posted for a while because I thought we had our little guy under control. Well....I need help. He'll lap up baby cereal mixed in his Leerburg formula. Can't get him to eat soaked puppy food that is soft, won't eat the hard, like the littermates (of course, they're 3 pounders and getting more teeth than he has). It's like he's about 2 weeks behind them. He's under 15 oz. and will be 7 weeks old on Oct. 25(Monday)---my 30th wedding anniversary;). It's as if he can't chew. I mean I know he can't 'chew' with minimal teeth, but if something's soft enough, I'd think he could get it down. He spits it out. He can lap, but won't take soft food. Not even canned puppy food. He does nurse the Mom, some, but don't know how much he gets. Weigh him several times per day. He sleeps a lot. He will play with us when we have him out trying to feed him; and he'll take off trying to run, gum our fingers, play with toys, but in a few minutes, he's looking for a place to go to sleep. The other will be playing like everything, and he'll be asleep.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Lin

Should I try the Liver water??? to possibly give him strength. I forgot to mention, I just started him on Dyne supplement. 1 ml. per day. (it's like a drop).

Some pups are slower starters than others, he's just not ready for the other stuff yet, likes nursing on mom and his cereal. Give him time. As far as him being 7 weeks of age has nothing to do with it, he's just not ready to be weaned.

It's very normal for them to sleep alot. The first 8 weeks of their life they need nothing but mother.

What has the vet said?

The liver fading puppy recipe can't hurt. Nutri Drops are good too.

weak puppy

Just typed a huge reply and don't know where it went. Anyway (and hope I'm not duplicating) as I was saying, he's not good on Mom. Wasn't staying on her and won't fight for position. Too little or weak. He's better now if I'm supervising. I think he's a preemie. Last one formed, first one born as others pushed him out. I try to get him to eat all kinds of things, but he all about baby cereal if you pretty much force the issue. Can't get him to drink water which worries me. I might try a drop of Karo in the water and a tiny syring, if he won't lap on his own. He still stays with Mom and the litter and so far he surely must be getting something from Mom or he would have dehydrated by now, although there is 'moisture' in the formula the baby cereal is made with. Just weighed him and he's 15 oz. which is a first.

With wee ones such as this, you need to allow him to nurse on mom alone, not allowing any of the other's in with them. Give him a good 10 minutes alone.

Try just Goat's Milk (closests thing to mom's milk) equal parts of distilled water and a bit of Karo.
