Went to the Library I made a trip to are local Library and got all the books I could find to educate myself and prepare myself for what is about to happen. I printed about about 20 pages from sites that another YT member had suggested. I'm going to go this weekend and get my supplies and my whelping box. I have a list of supplies to get, but can anyone tell me some supplies that I may need that may not be listed? Also, I have heard that some say not to have the ex-rays done and some says to do it. I would like your opinion on this. I think it's a good idea so I will know how many pups to expect. One more thing, I read that they let the mom eat the placenta, do you let your mommas eat the afterbirth? I'm well on my way guys, I have lots to read and estimating less then 2 weeks, I will admit I'm very nervous! I just appreciate all of you and all your support  |
Hope everything goes well! Looks like your trying hard and doing things great to make sure everything goes by fine... Just wanted to add: If you go down the baby isle/part of the store you will find many things to get prepared! Again, Good Luck!!! |
List the supplies you are planning on getting, that way everyone can chime in if you've left anything off. Or we may be able to make suggestions on what you can subsitute them for. One hint I can give you. You will need LOTS of towels for the whelp. Do not try to fool yourself into thinking that you will ever be able to get them clean. I would suggest either buying some cheap ones, use some old ones, or get some from the thrift store or somewhere and wash them several times. Make you use some you don't mind throwing out afterwards. I would recommend the x-ray. It will not guarantee you the exact number of pups, but will give your vet a heads up if the pups look like they may be too big to deliver. A planned c-section is better than an emergency c-section when your girl is in trouble. I let my female eat one afterbirth, but toss the other ones. They can upset the digestive system badly. |

I would get some Johnson & Johnson baby wash too--very mild and good to use on mom in the days after the whelp. I've never had to worry about this but, pre-plan a method of 'marking' the pups so that you can tell them apart--yarn around the tail works best. They may look very similar, maybe not. So just in case... |
