Yes, the dog is almost certainly protected (although vaccines fail). The duration of immunity works in Pepsi's favor. However, that's not how law enforcement will see it and they shouldn't because it's a matter of public safety now. >3 years duration of immunity for rabies hasn't been established yet (being done now), so they have no choice but to go with the law.

Yeah, I realize the law but I was just thinking about the dog. So hope that it was protected in case that stuff got in its eyes or nose or something. You think it should be protected unless the vaccine just didn't "take" at all?

I'm wondering why they can't do a titer for the rabies immunity ? Also have they given the dog a rabies booster. If I were the dogs owner I would be calling the local news & telling them the whole story of how AC would not respond. I have never had AC not respond to my calls.

I would also talk with a vet and a lawyer. If the AC officer is feeling guilty and knows shes at fault (why else would she try to waive the fees) then she needs to be held responsible. If it's her inadequacies at her job that caused the outcome of this, she needs to be reported.
They don't know if Pepsi is infected,...this is why they have to quarantine her....And I agree !

They don't do titers for Rabies...It's a state law that they have to have it. I have asked my vet about this many times.

Even if she HAD just been vaccinated this wouldn't have prevented her from being quarantined....would have only meant a 4 month instead of a 6 month.

I'm no expert but the ASPCA states that if they are up to date they only need be observed for 45 days.

Actually they can do Rabies Titer tests. I understand that it's the law to have your pet vaccinated but if they do a Titer, they can at least tell what the immunity level is so that the dog doesn't have to be quarantined for 6 mo. If the Titer shows good immunity then the dog would only need to be quarantined for the 45 days.
