Aw, don't be so down on Mississippi. It's just like most places....there's good and bad everywhere. I'm from Mississippi but I lived in the Berkshires in Connecticut for several years and there are folks there that have never seen the other side of the mountain. Mississippi doesn't have a monopoly on being backwards. I appreciate your explaining about the cattle auctions. I've cursed the 'dollar menu' before and knew that was no good behind it. People don't seem to care (or think about) what happens in the background as long as they can save a buck. We won't get better until we demand better. As for the politics behind this bill, I fully blame the House for this. As you know, Mississippi is a state with a relatively weak governor, with the legislature really running things. This bill is dead for the year but I hope we can use the time between now and the next session to help ensure this bill's passage. |
As a public school teacher I have serious issues with our Govenor and our legislature. The animal cruelty bill just topped it off for me today. Guess I'm in a pretty crappy mood after hearing that layoffs are coming here at my school due to budget cuts and from dealing with Davinci's loss. It's scary to think about what goes into the food that we eat. My husband tells stories that will make you want to stop eating all together. I am down on MS right now. Even though I have lived here since I was 6 weeks old. I honestly see major disasters coming due to poor spending choices being made by our law makers. Our children are suffering educationally from the MS government's lack of concern for public schools. And now animals will continue to suffer also due to their lack of concern. It's no wonder we rank at the bottom on the bucket on anything that counts. |
