Animal Planet Investigates: Dogfighting - Monday, Jan. 25, 10 p.m. EST/PST Received this via email...am going to try to watch.... quote --> Animal Planet airs a special program on Monday, Jan. 25, at 10 p.m. EST/PST, exposing the grim underworld of U.S. dogfighting. "Animal Planet Investigates: Dogfighting Exposed" features never-seen footage from our high-profile dogfighting raids, as well as interviews with The HSUS' animal fighting experts. It also showcases our End Dogfighting program, which diverts inner-city youths from dogfighting and casts pit bulls in the image of friends, not fighters. While revealing the ugliness of dogfighting, the program shows the immense progress we've made against it and offers hope for saving dogs from this cruel fate. Urge your friends to watch it, too! <--end quote |
I watched the show last night called "Pit Boss" and he is totally into saving Pitt's and even took one guy) who he found out was going to breed his male) to one of the LA shelters to show him all the Pitties that will be PTS, in order to give him a wake up call. I really liked that show. |

Here in Phoenix, I was told there are hundreds of Pitties put to sleep here every *week*. Very sad. :(:(:( |
Oh Ann, I saw a dog fight on pbs once and I just can't bring myself to watching it again. I had nightmares! Do you think they will show actual fights or just the arrests, fight rings etc. I so admire you for doing this! Thank you. |

I think it's a double-edged sword whether to show or not show snippets of actual dog fights. Personally, I don't need to see them to know how horrible this is of an industry. But for many other impressionable young minds who could be lured into the world of Pitbull breeding...I think you need to in order to share the truth about where their future litters could end up. Unfortunately, a very high number eventually end up in ALL of our local animal shelters where they are routinely PTS along with another breed, the Chihuahua. I for one am tired of seeing poor innocent animals face this future plus, my tax dollars going to the end result, all brought about by irresponsible breeders (byb, etc) of Pitbulls (as well as many others) and want to see laws come into being that limit who can & can not breed...period! ***Disclaimer: These are my thoughts & opinions...and I know I am not alone in them*** |
I for one do want to be educated and watch this show, but it's on soooo late. I wonder if they'll reshow it? Does anyone know? If not, I'll probably stay up to watch it...yeah, 9:30 is my bed time LOL |
That's great, thanks for the information. I use to think that this was a really small segment of society, and not much of a real problem, but in some areas it is really big business, and a way of life. We can't turn our heads to this; people who learn to condone animal fighting will have to contend with children learning that animal cruelty is acceptable. We have to learn that there is something about this "sport" that greatly appeals to some, and we have to let them know that this is not acceptable. This is really big business, and these people do influence the laws being made. They pass so much propaganda to reputable breeders concerning breeding and regulations. I don't believe that most reputable breeders understand that much of the information they receive concerning new laws being passed comes from these "sporting" types of organizations. With big money comes the ability to hire clever people who know how to appeal to the masses, and appeal to small breeders. These dog fighting promoters do much more damage than most people understand. Here's some more information: http://press.discovery.com/us/apl/pr...remiere-anima/ |
Thanks Nancy, It looks like they are going to show the fights doesn't it. I just can't watch it or listen to it! The screams of pain and desperation just eat me alive. I used to think it was a small segment also but I have been educated. This can be a horrible cruel world to live in. Each of us need to do our part. Every little bit helps. There are pamphlets you can buy about dog fighting and donate them to the schools in your area. You can post them on community bulletin boards etc. I have a master copy if anyone wants it. |

I'd love to see this pamphlet! I think it would be a wonderful tool for schools and humane societies! Thank you for the information. I sent a thank you e-mail to the editor of that article on this Animal Planet program. I love the work they do to educate the public on animal rights and protection. |
