While I have had to hold some of my rescues as they crossed to the rainbow bridge I have never had to do what you had to do. Picking the dogs that were going to die...how hard that must have been. I know you have seen the piles of animals that people said they loved...My heart goes out to you and while it was a long time ago I am sure you have never forgotten this.

We just have to keep the message out there until we stop killing 5 million pets a year.:(

Oh no kidding...bless her heart. That is the hardest job in the rescuing of animals. I don't know that I could do it. I have always said that people who can do that have to really, really love animals. They have to absorb all of that sadness to save the ones they do.

wow great information!! as Bob Barker always said... get your pets spayed or neutered...be responsible dog owners people, if you aren't an educated breeder already spay and neuter your dogs and cats...if you are thinking about breeding, maybe you should reconsider and rather than add to the population, rescue dogs and rehabilitate and give them to good homes, it's the same type of feeling, you get to raise dogs and give them to nice people!!

hope everyone learns from this post and takes it to heart to help our country cut down on the homeless pets!

Was thinking about this for a few days.....for those of us interested in animal welfare, maybe we can post things more often to continue to bring attention to this issue.

Maybe it's a post like the OPs, maybe it's just a quote, or new statistics, or a passage you read, or something that keeps you motivated to continue helping (and avoiding feeling that helplessness that can set in at times).

I was thinking we could have a name for it, like, DAWG=Daily Animal Welfare Gab or something? I couldn't think of a better word for the "G" part there :rolleyes:.

For example, you'd put in the thread title "DAWG: New Shelter Stats just released" or whatever. Maybe we let it sit in General for awhile, but then move it to ANimal Welfare section (which I'm not sure enough folks read) for keeping.

Anyway...just an idea...as I do like seeing more posts about animal welfare. :)

Great Idea Ann..:thumbup: I especially like the idea it starts off in General and then gets moved. There is a ton of information out there and while we can't force people to open threads..maybe just maybe a few more people will read these and it will make them think.:)
