Tracking workshop Sunday Our whole family is going to the tracking workshop for Black Russians and Razzle our yorkie gets to go too!:D Dara and I will be doing the workshop and I think Dave will take in Razzle - or vice versa lol. I am really excited to see how Razzman will do. I also want to expose him to earth dog trials as well this summer. It is so great our club allows non BRT's to participate in their events. Most folks that own large dogs don't get to see our YT's in action! They usually come away impressed! |
Gemy It all sounds exciting makes me excited for all of you! I had never seen a little yorkie go through the agility course before until we went to a show years ago. We then had the chance to enjoy this very tiny energetic competitor. My sister was taking her standard poodle through the course and he did very good. But this little yorkie was giving it his all and I was impressed. I would not have seen him if we hadn't taken our shepherd to show. The little yorkie made our day! We even took pictures of him.:) |
Just back and what a day we had! Gorgeous sunny day - lovely farm property. There were 11 teams participating in the workshop and first was the theory/lecture part then the fun part. You start off by building a scent box - about 3feet square and then you strew it with good treats. You bring your dog over then put on the harness then quietly sit your dog and give the scent command - and your dog goes into the box and gets his treat rewards. The object here is to familiarize and to begin to imprint your scent = rewards. Then Dara got asked to try to demonstrate the next step which is to follow a short treat laden trail that you have walked all over and dropped the treats. She did really really well in the scent box! Not so much with the scent trail. Razzle did really good too. All the dogs were well behaved and we had a great picnic lunch. |
