Penny Passed!
 
DH just called to say they just finished their evaluation with Pet Partners and they passed! Our little girl is officially a therapy dog. This was our first try, was hoping to just pass with a predictable certification but Penny got complex. I'm so tickled I can burst!

A shout out to Deb Sillers our breeder. Thank you Deb for our beautiful wonderful little Penny! We hope we've made you proud! You are now officially a breeder of therapy dogs/Yorkies too. :p

That is so awesome! I have always wanted to have a therapy dog that I could take to nursing homes or schools. As a stay at home mom it would give me something to do and I love dogs and people. It would be awesome for me.

JadeD, sounds like you'll be perfect for therapy dog visits. Having the time to do visits especially when one works full time is the challenge for most teams. Loving people, having the gift of gab and good dog handling are qualities that therapy dog organizations look for in their handlers.

Has any of your dogs passed the Canine Good Citizen test? Do they love people as much as you? Do they have the gift of wag? :p :D

How did I miss this??? Congratulations to you and Penny! I don't blame you for being proud! Eddie has passed it 4 times but only once did he get a complex! You must be a terrific team!

Hey! Not fair! Eddie's been short-changed! Eddie is handled by both you and your wife so that would mean he passed 8 times!

Penny, will only be working with dh for now because quite frankly, she’s a daddy’s girl. Right now she's been making 2 visits per month... more if her dad had the time.

Prior to taking the evaluation, we enrolled Penny into a therapy dog training class to help pinpoint what we/she needed to work on. She got to go on short limited therapy visits to an assisted living facility. Here she is with some of her friends.

Too cute! Wow, I can see how she passed the neutral dog test! She doesn't look the least bit concerned with the other dogs!

I've always tested the dogs as little dogs to take advantage of the rule saying you can carry little dogs during some of the test elements. But Kelly, my wife, the big showoff, tested both as big dogs and passed with flying colors.

Got it! ... Kelly is the awesome one with the know how, mad handling skills and bragging rights! :cool::D:D

Guinness being over 13 pounds had to do the big dog test while Penny was small dog tested on several exercises- the restraining hug, petted by several people, exuberant and clumsy petting. We were told to test like we would handle our dogs on a visit. Penny is always carried for petting, Guinness is carried if the person is a young child or someone using a walker or wheel chair.

Seriously, I came to YT because I found some videos on Youtube. I was inspired by this little Yorkie named Eddie and his dad Mike who has this amazing bond and they did agility and therapy work. :p

As much as I would love to share my stories, I am bound by HIPAA so no posting or blogging without getting prior approval. :( But I understand patient privacy concerns.

Aww. I'm not sure it counts as therapy if your words leave me all weepy! Thank you. We do what we do to make people smile, but I share what we do to inspire more people and their pets to make people smile! :) It's rewarding when I hear that it works and you're carrying on the tradition! :)
