Training two dogs in agility?? Possible?
 

So I originally decided to take up agility with my 2 year old German Shepherd as a fun way to release some of his insane amount of energy. We had already tried Schutzhund, but there were no inviting clubs nearby. Also tried Obedience but at this age he's just way too bouncy and energetic to compete. SO, I moved on to agility haha. Pretty soon though, I realized my 7 year old Yorkie might actually do better XD. Kody (the German Shepherd) has a ton of energy, will go fast, and is an extremely fast learner (our trainer is always astounded by how fast he picks things up and remembers them xD), however, he does not have near the focus that Miley (the Yorkie) does. She's always been a laid-back dog, but when I was having her do some "come"s and mini jumps over the hose laid flat on the grass in the backyard today, she has considerable speed. Plus, she's also a very fast learner, was always ahead in her doggie obedience classes lol.

So, do most agility training places charge more, less, or the same amount if you want bring two dogs to class? Is this even reasonable? I don't have the two out together at home (unless Kody is on a leash and has been walked already) because Miley's turning into a grumpy old lady and she'll nip his nose if he gets too close! Kody is crate trained, but Miley isn't. Would this work? Thanks!

Wow it sounds like you have two talented dogs. Buster's idea of agility is leaping over things to chase his treat ball. With two in agility class when you are working with one do you keep the other crated for safety?

bwahahahahaha, this made me LAUGH OUT LOUD!!! Mini's agility is not missing a step on her stairs, and CoCoCody's agility is left, left right left trying to keep paws off the snow outside!

I had Jackson in agility, and hope to get back into it, but I recall a few ppl having multiple dogs in different levels. So a lot of times one would stay out in the car in a crate or w/e, while the owner worked with one dog, and then the next class would begin and the dogs would switch places. I always took classes in the fall/winter when weather was okay to do that. :)

Some places will allow you to crate one dog indoors so that the weather is not an issue.
Pretty much you will need both dogs crate trained, while you work with one, the other is crated. Or have a friend come with you and hold which-ever dog you are not working with.


When I work alone, I have a lead I can tie up to a tree, and put one in a down stay while I work with the other one.


It can get a bit noisey with my two or three, as they all want to get in on the action - and they let me know it!

There are several people with more than one dog in some of our classes. One stay in their cage while the other works. Works just fine !

I think they pay for two dogs, but I also,think there is a discount for more than one dog.

This is exactly how i do it. One is crated in my car while the other works.
