disobedient 4 month old mia who thinks its a game
 

ok so my 4 month old mia has some bad habits. what can i do to.stop some of these bad habits?

-digging in.her water bowl
-biting me while playing and when i say stop or no she takes it as a game.
-licks your feet non stop even specially when u come out the shower
-sometimes barks at me non stop when i say stop or.no


funny thing is when she knows she did something i dont like.and I say Eyy! firmly she looks at me and runs under a trunk i have and doesnt come out while barking. shell stick her head a little and sort of bark.louder. i find this cute without the barking


please help!

btw they did.just finish her shots.so she is currently on her second day of walks.

Awwww, they're not really bad habits...they're just little Mia behaving like a puppy - they all go through all of this :)

Digging in her water bowl - she'll probably grow out of it, but in the meantime try a ceramic bowl instead of stainless steel (or vice versa)

Biting - she's just learning - but needs to be distracted. She's also beginning to teethe. Offer her an appropriate chew toy every single time.

Feet licking - I've never been able to stop that, especially freshly showered....but then again I've grown to quite like it....:p

Barking non-stop when saying no - when Harry was little Mia's age, I'd put up with it for so long, and then give him 5 minutes cool-down time in his crate or our kitchen...it was like he got over-excited.

Give her loads of play and exercise time indoors - things will get easier once you're able to take her out for proper walks....don't forget, she can't go out walking until 10/14 days after her last round of shots (that applies 'over here' anyway!!)...Good Luck! :)

I agree with Harry's Mum. Except for the biting, those are just cute puppy antics. Barney still does the licking thing at 1.5 years. It's a little gross because he licks the lotion right off my legs as soon as I put it on. I have to run around the bedroom trying to get dressed before he licks it all off. Gross, cute and funny. Seriously happy no one has had to see this but my husband. When your baby bites, just say, "Ow, that hurts!" and turn away. This worked with Barney.

it is pretty cute sometimes thats why sometimes i just pick her and fill her up with kisses 5 mins after ofcourse.lol but.sometimes ill walk away and shell bite my feet. i will switch the plastic bowl i have now to the stainless steel i got.her wen.she was a smaller. cutest thing is she walks to the bowl looks at me then puts one hand in and when i say no! she runs.then comes back to do it.again. she knows.i dnt like it cuz she always looks at me for a good 3 min then does it. 😃

she has more toys then.anyone here . everyday someone spoils her. she still likes.biting. i might have to take her out for walks more often.because the.day i took her out she slept like a baby in.the night. rather then running back and forth like the usual .

Hi, licking when you come out of shower. all my dogs did that, from puppies to the day they passed away. They all seemed to like the water dripping down the legs. Digging in her water bowl, so cute, she's teasing you. You say she looks at you, then digs, it's all for the attention she'll get from you, just teasing you. Feet licking I never permitted, when they did I would tell them "no licking", you have to be consistent with that command, every time she starts to lick your feet, give her the command, she will stop, it's up to you to be consistent. The biting, like barneysmommmy wrote, they are just cute puppy antics and teething, tell her "no biting" then give her a chew toy. She's just a baby, you have to teach her what's acceptable and what is not. Good luck

First, a "No" command, but its used two ways, lets start with the biting, any biting, gentle or aggressive play. You have to say "No" in a calm, even voice as you totally ignore her, don't jerk your hand away, just say no and go limp, if she does not stop in a short time(less then a minute), just crate/pen her for a few minutes, after a few rounds she'll figure out that if she wants to play its by your rules.


Now there's two ways to use the "No" command, soft, calm voice for any biting, chewing on you or clothes you are wearing or licking your feet, loud, agitated "No" and any reaction will usually just intensify the bad action. Some gentle biting you can redirect to a chew bone, but I prefer the "No" command, you need to teach her you make the rules! Now for other bad actions such as chewing on furniture or other objects, digging in water bowl, a loud guttural "No" and stern look should freeze your pup in her tracks.


Now the barking is same as biting, you yell, she yells back, Calm "no" and Crate/ignore if she does not stop. Do not take her out if she whines, wait till she settles. If she tears stuff up in crate or pen strip it down, but remember this is not punishment, just a place to put her when you have other things to do.

She just turned 5 months old an d we are just beginning to see a little light at the end of the training tunnel. She's adorable and so cuddly but can make us want to tear out our hair, so it's good to finally see a tiny bit of progress in the biting, if not the barking, area. Our first yorkie pup, who is now 9 years, was never like this!

Yeah she's just being a puppy. My 5 month old yorkie and my 1.5 year old maltese like to lick legs when somebody gets out the shower. My yorkie digs holes in the yard, always picking up sticks and trying to eat them. Bite my maltese ears and pulls his tail. She is a mess...lol..

Yeah, just puppy antics. Yorkies take about 25 times of teaching something before they get it. She is a junior which is like a teenager. She's testing the waters... Have patience it will settle down as she gets more mature. Don't acknowledge her behaviors when she sees it doesn't work she will learn your way. Just have fun and enjoy her-

I've came to the conclusion that I just might take mia to training because for the past week or so. When I say no she barks at me continuously and when I turn around she bite the heel of my foot hard. Thats just crazy, don't u think?. Either. When I say or out of the blue. What can I do about this ? Shes very disobedient at this point.

Before you spend a lot of $ on a trainer, try this . . . it's working with our Mia! Put several small stones in a soda can and tape the top closed. Each time Mia does her barking/biting, shake the can and give a firm, "No!". It frightens, but doesn't harm, her. If you use one of the really small soda cans, you can carry it around in your pocket! Good luck, I know what you're going through and how frustrating it is. Try to remember that it's not personal; she's just a headstrong puppy!

Yes, rattle cans are great, the will freeze dog in their tracks. Also Ice cubes, as at 4 months the teething will start getting annoying to pup. Ginger likes them better then cookies. When the ice machine drops a load in the bin she runs to the fridge as sometimes if she's lucky one will fall through the dispenser to the floor, lol.
