Depression Im not sure im in the right part of the forum... I am worried about my yorkie being depressed. She is 3 years old and she used to be very cheerful and full of energy like every YT, but it all have changed in the past year. Since she was a pup I always slept with her, then went to work (normal office hours) then once I got home took her for a walk, played with the toys, obedience.. nothing has changed in my routine but my dog just doesnt want to play anymore and all she does is sleep. She sleeps when I am at work and is still just laying around even when I open the door (no happy greeting by the door) I try to play but she just ignores the toys she still loves my company, but all she wants to do is jump on my lap and cuddle up to sleep or get belly rubs It all just got worse when I had a business trip and had to leave her in a friends place for a month Have anyone had a similar problem? Should I be worried? Or maybe she just grew out of playing? Is that possible? |

I would have her checked out by your vet. They will slow down on the play when they get a little older... but this seams more than that. Good luck |
I would have her vetted....some of them will slow down playing and bouncing around as they get older, but when it develops into sleeping all the time, I would have a vet look into that. She actually could be "depressed" about you leaving her for a month with someone else...and they will pout and display their "hurt feelings" so you see what a "horrid person you were to abandon them"(lol!), but they usually get over that too...I have one that does that behavior for as long as a week.....I dont know how long it has been since you "returned and took possession of her again"(this is what SHE is thinking!!)....if she has been like this for more than a week, I would have the vet check her out.....blood work. |
I agree with above. I would take take her to the vet |
I agree that your pup could be displaying "hurt" feelings but I always want to error on the side of safety and would have the vet take a look. It could be nothing and you will be relieved but if it is something, you need to know right away. Blessings, I hope it turns out not to be anything serious. Please let us know what you find out. |
Have you changed food? As an adult was she cheerful or did she sleep more after puppy years? What are you feeding her now? |
So sorry your baby is feeling sad, do you know if the routine was different at your friends? Did they have other dogs? Were they home all day? Maybe some old fashioned exercise like a walk around the block will help. |
Definitely vet check if this behaviour has gone on for more than one week. Bloodwork for sure; and you might want to have the Expanded Thyroid Panel done - and also BATS. Grumbling or giving you the cold shoulder, in my house, has not lasted longer than 30 minutes... |
I agree with everyone I would have a physical check up done with the vet. If everything is ok then I would just start giving her extra attention and take her for walks and do some fun things with her. Hope she is ok....:) |
