Changed my dog's name About a month ago we adopted a baby girl yorkie from a couple who had gotten her from a shelter. She was part of a breeding nightmare was what I was told. I had just lost my Roxie to a sago palm seed. The previous owners named her Penny and I don't know if she actually even ever had a name or not. I have renamed her Maxie. It sounds like Roxie and I don't know why I didn't think of it before. I think she responds better to Maxie than to Penny. Mostly, we just call her Baby Girl. |
Renaming your baby may not be your biggest problem. If you adopted from someone who got her from a shelter, those folks probably didn't have the right to rehome her... there's usually a stipulation in the shelter agreement that says if you can't keep the animal, you have to return in to the shelter. (Remember the bru-ha-ha with Ellen DeGeneres?) But having said that, renaming the dog shouldn't be a concern. I renamed my Max from Hans. Hans just wasn't an easy name to call, and Max comes out crisp and clear. I even let the breeder know I had renamed him, and she was fine with that. |
I renamed Rosie who was 5 years old when I got her from the breeder. She was called Mitzy! |
I got Mandie when she was 4 1/2 months old. Her name was Sophie. My husband said that it was "too ritzy a name for us" so we came up with Mandie. lol Oh and my "heart dog"..my pom - Her name was Sara Lee when I got her and I just couldn't go with that lol. So, I renamed her Jasmine :) |
My golden was named Cody when I got him and I immediately changed his name to Buddy. Cody sounded too much like Cozy (my mama yorkie). |
We've had our 7 month old for 3 weeks, his name was Rebel, we renamed him to Enzo, he converted quickly, I think its just the tone a person uses, but I do think he hated Rebel too! ;) Curious George is his nickname :animal-pa |
Galen's original name was Lil' Willy, then Disney now Galen also known as Buggie, Baby Buggie . . . LOL |
My brother and his wife let my 4 year old nephew rename their newly adopted 5 year old pug. She was Flossy but never answered to it and Nolan thought that she looked and sounded like a pig so he named her Piggy. She actually answers to that so it stuck. :) |
Bella's original name given by the breeder was Marsha, but that reminded me too much of the Brady Bunch (although she might end up having Marsha Brady's long silky hair, LOL :)). When's she's bad, I've toyed with renaming her "Hyacinth Bucket" (pronounced "Bouquet") so I can refer to her as "that Bucket woman," (that's for all you "Keeping Up Appearances" fans :)), but we will stick with Bella, because that is what she knows now. |

I got hazel at 14weeks her name was jitter bug first, I remembered the really annoyin jitter bug phone commercial jingle from a few years ago and just had to change it. Hazel fits way better to me. |
As soon as I saw Him I named him Alfie, but very soon after and ever since he mostly thinks his name is Alfie-No! |
The pups in blazers litter were named: Blazer, Ema, Bear, Grizzly, Gibs, and Chance. The first three all kept those names- the last three turned into Gilbert, Tucker, and Rocky (or Zeus- the owners hadn't decided when they brought him home.) |
Ian was named Dillinger when we adopted him. He was a year old, and had no problem adjusting to his forever name. |
