Petsmart obedience classes anyone been to petsmart for obedience classes? are they real trainers or are they trained to teach this course by petsmart? i am there now with jobi and basically, i am using it as exposure for jobe. but will search for something else after this 8 week course is over. I don't like the running through the store on the second class. the lessons are introduced much too fast but it is cheap and good reference for a novice. |
i forgot to mention, since i can't edit my first post past 5 minutes, that i am at the warden and eglington location in Scarborough, Ontario |
petsmart classes I signed up my yorkie at petsmart and was totally disappointed. Each class was done too quick and you mentioned 2nd day walking through the store was an adventure. I attended 3 classes and had enough, not sold on their trainers. If someone is looking into the petsmart training, save your money not worth it. |
hmm. so the training schedule is the same everywhere. |
The pet smart trains their trainers, my friend used to do it and I would not consider her a trainer as her own dog is not well trained |

but thats funny. as the person training us has a yorkie and she said her yorkie embarrassed her because she sat there and ignored everything she told her to do when she took her to training...lol. that is when i thought also.. whhhaaattttt? she also said dogs eat grass because they crave vegetables..lol |
Some Petsmarts have very good and well trained teachers. Some even take their dog through the AKC CGC PROGRAM. If you are interested in showing your dog it is not that type of program. |

just interested in having jobi listen and wanted a trainer that was educated in behaviours. some of the techiques used are for what ever kind of dog. not a dog that is anxious or has separation anxiety. for example, she said if your dog runs away from you.. you should not chase them. run in the other direction, and the dog will follow you.. well not going to do that.. jobi will be hit and killed by the first car that comes along. now some dogs may follow, but if you are at obedience, i am guessing you already have a dog that does not listen or needs to learn commands. as i said. just using it as exposure now for jobi and will seek another training place afte this is done. |
definitely depends on location Petsmart DOES train its workers on dog training procedures but each store varies on how good of a trainer it actually has. My friend near our place is an excellent trainer and i even used to ask her for training tips when i couldn't quite figure out how to do certain things myself. on the other hand the 2 trainer in that same location isn't as helpful and rushes through classes which is hard for most people working with their dogs. If you plan on trying a different location you can ask the trainer if you can sit in the first class andregister after if you think it'll work for you. I think using the petsmart training mostly as socialization is a good idea until you find a better trainer that suits your needs ;) Use youtube how to videos as a supplement. There are some excellent trainers that tape how to videos there! |

youtube is awesome. its great to see the different methods since not one particular method works for all dogs! |
When Callie was a puppy we did petsmart training and our trainer was an actual trainer and was very great she still remembers Callie and me to this day. I loved the class. I think as with every store every place is different. |
Our local petsmart trainers are wonderful. I have taken 3 dogs from puppy thru CGC and am taking my 15 week old yorkie thru now. Angela and Tiffany know the dogs and can get them to do anything. I can do the training by now but think the dogs need the socialization. Most of the trainers time seems to be training the owner. I think the trainers skill /knowledge varies with each store. |
one of the things that bothers me is , you can bring the whole family. and so there is a family of 4 that take turns doing the same command, then i go, once, and then i have to wait for them to do it 4 times. it is unbalanced. and it is two kids. so there is laughing and "i want to do it first" and " i want to again" going on that i feel jobi gets left out of the lessons. most of the time is spent watching the other family. i do plan on writing petsmart about this. |
I'm thinking about going to get Titus trained at the Care a lot pet store dog trainers. These trainers not only train but are behavorists as well. They are also cheaper than Petsmart training prices which I thought was pretty funny. Puppy courses at Petsmart I believe is $109...and the Care a lot pet store is $99. |
