Agility - Advanced/Beginner We just started up agility again, with Jackson-man. We did a 5 week session in Nov-Dec and unfortunately, I was really sick for 2 of them... so we missed 2 out of 5 classes. So we're back at it now! 6 weeks this time around. He did really well today. We started off a little flaky (there was a trial there this past weekend so LOTS of smells for him to sniff) and we ended on a great note! We're doing small sequences. Mostly tunnel and jumps. We worked on weaves today - which he hadn't really practiced much before (they worked on them in the 2 classes we missed). This trainer is using the channel method, which we never worked on before, so it's interesting. He's catching on pretty fast. Next week, we're going to work more on targeting, as well as more introduction to the teeter. Our "homework" this week is to work on longer stays, and ME... I get so flustered when trying to remember where to go, and it shows! When I relax, Jackson relaxes, and does much better! |
Very cool...I was just thinking that having a small course in my backyard might be something to try w the dogs at some point to keep them thinking and keep boredom away! |

That sounds like fun, and from what i've seen on tv, looks like great exercise too. Another one that looks interesting is the Earth dog competition, but since mine isn't a registered purebreed, he wouldn't be allowed to enter. Phooey. Still would be fun to watch. Maybe one day they'll let mutts compete. :animal-pa |
We started agility back in October and are having a lot of fun with it. It is so exciting to watch as the dogs catch on and are able to do more and more. I regret not starting sooner. We did two, 7-week sessions and I'm planning to continue on. My little guy was starting to get too cold the last few weeks with the weather getting chillier, so I will start group class again in April, but plan to do some private lessons indoors between now and then. My husband made us some jumps and we got a tunnel for Christmas. I want to add more pieces, but since it's cold, we just set them up in the living room when we want to practice and space is limited! I think agility is much more difficult for the human than the dog...I had no idea that it would be as complicated as it is... there is a lot of skill involved and a lot of remembering what to do....my dog is so smart, he would probably be a pro already if it wasn't for me getting in the way. ;) |

Hi! What are the rules of choosing a dog trainer? I've looked through many reviews (Pet Reviews @ Pissed Consumer), but didn't find anything helpful. What are the things to pay attention to? Please advise! |
