AKC Earthdog Yorkies are now allowed to do AKC Earthdog, I just saw this the other night. Anyone thinking of doing this? I'm going to try to find a class as don't think my dad would be very happy with my digging an underground tunnel. :P |
I'm not familiar with Earthdog... is it similar to agility? |
I knew that the YTCA had been working hard to get Yorkies qualified for the event, and I really think the Yorkie will excel in this. They were originally bred as ratters and I know they will have a ball doing this. Basically they will use hunting and tracking skills to find rats in a cage. Read more about it here: http://www.akc.org/events/earthdog/PetPartners.pdf |
Thank you Nancy... interesting information (I enjoy continuing to learn new things here on YT), and I agree about yorkies doing well at this. Well, some yorkies would do better than others... my dh says Tillie has more "dog" in her (always on alert and our first responder ;)), while Bella is our "deluxe" model (more girly and lets Tillie lead and do most of the work ) :D |
Yorkies can compete starting 8/1/2012 :). They will be earth dog champions in am sure. When I am done with Buddy's CGC and therapy training maybe I will get Roxy into this for fun. She and Cozy can already catch vermin. |
This is awesome news!!!!! |

For the AKC events, though, does your dog have to be "purebred" and have AKC papers? |

That's great news, I was kind of indignant that Yorkies were not included in this, my girl has a very strong prey drive and is a natural hunter. |
Well good news! I found a club (The Scottish Terrier Club) that holds a few of these events a few; got in contact with one of the main people. They would love to have Jackson come out and are going to let me know when they have a few practices. There is a test in September. And then there's a fun event being helped by the Norfolk Terrier Club right in my dads city, so I will definitely be going to that! June 23rd, I believe. :) |
