Big Time Jealousy Problem! I have 5 YTs with major jealousy issues. If two are on my lap they end up fighting viciously. My dogs are in no way aggressive (other than when being petted or held by me). This happens only with me, not my husband or any other family member. If I have one of my YTs on my lap and another comes within a foot of me, prepare for war! My dog are great besides this issue and it's really gotten out of hand. Starting to really bother me. Anyone have similar issues or advice? |
My boys don't physically fight, but they do get jealous sometimes when one is getting attention from one of their humans. The only suggestions I have are 1) sit on the floor and pet all of them, while trying one in you lap at a time, 2) remove the offenders to another room while you have one on your lap (do this only if you think it is safe to leave the others unattended, out of your sight); 3) work on engaging all 5 at one time with trick training (big challenge :)) before you hold one your lap and then give the others commands to wait their turn. When I see my boys showing jealousy, I redirect their attention by saying, "Do you want to do tricks?" This means they get a kibble for each little trick performed: sit, down, shake hands, and so on. It is much easier with only 2. |
I will definetly try that. Thanks so much for help. I'll keep you posted :D |
I have to girls...when we first introduced each other, my older one (Happy) was super nervous. She was panting and drooling all over the house. And then, it turned into mild fighting. Not so much fighting but very rough play. One time, Happy grabbed Lily(the younger one) by the ear. And now, they're inseparable. It took almost a year. It's still a work in progress, tho. If I say "brush," both will run and try to sit on my lap. Yeah, I thought it was super funny that they like to be brushed. So, I throw a toy so that one of them is playing with the toy while I'm brushing the other. Sort of like multitasking. Lol. Brush with one arm, throw toy with the other, praise Happy, and praise Lily. I agree with Maximo. Good to redirect their attention ;) |
