I'm so glad you posted that information because I've been telling friends and family NOT to let their tiny babies outside without them being right there because of the danger from other animals and birds of prey. They don't think birds of prey would ever come down inside a fenced yard. Even at night, the owls are looking in yards. I feel so sorry that the lady lost her beloved cat that way. What a horrible death to be eaten alive. Please everyone, keep your babies right by you when your outside. |
Oh, great. :( Texas has 150 pairs of birds. Alaska has 75,000. Fortunately there's no good reason for them to hang out in the big city where I live. Of course, there's probably no good reason for them to be hanging out in the backyard of a Texas home either. |
Such a scarey story! It has happened all over!!! Keep them with you always! |
How terrible for that poor cat and it's owner. Stories like this I'm thankful he's 16lbs. |
That's sad. :( |
:cry8: Soooo sad! I always worry about the birds, snakes, etc....I couldn't imagine letting Mojo & LilyGrace outside by themselves!!! |
We have ALOT of Eagles here in Montana....not as many as Alaska has....I'm sure! When I first brought Daizy here I was really worried but I guess lately I've not been as cautious!!! Thanks so much for reminding me that we ALWAYS need to be on alert!!!!! ANd my Tulip is only 1 1/2 lbs!!! So I really need to keep my eyes on her! |
OMG, that is only 10 minutes from my house. I always look up, but its so scary when you have three littles one to look after. They will be going out one at a time now. |
Dogs out alone I am so afraid that will happen to my dogs, they only are 4 & 5 lbs. any time they are out back I go with them and walk around when they are doing their business, that way any hawks will stay away, is is not fun in the bad weather but I could not live with my self if something happen to them |
Oh how awful! My DH and some of our friends make fun of me for worrying about this-but it's a real threat! I passed the links on to them. |
 How sad for the Kitty cat! I have heard of thsi happening before. Have to watch them like a hawk. And I worry about the hawks being hungry to. You never know. |
People think I am crazy for not adopting to people with doggy doors, but this is why. I have seen so many instances of this over the years...and also with dogs being attacked by coyotes. Not to mention stolen out of yards. Actually, it really could happen with you standing there, but less likely. I do not let my pups outside unattended. I stopped a hawk from snatching one of mine one day. That bird was circling and I noticed it was getting lower....by the time I realized what was going on and ran across the yard, he was only a few feet away. It was a little yorkie whose leg had to be amputated (a foster) and he had just come home from the surgery, so I guess he looked like prey to that hawk. I am in a Houston suburb and it is not rural! so...yes, they are everwhere! |
Anchorage Quote:
I live next to a big field in midtown and Marty and I saw two eagles fly over us just a few weeks ago! |
