Yorkie v. Silky Can anyone tell me the difference b/w a silky terrior and a yorkie? How can you tell them apart? |
The silky has Australian Terrier in it ( I think). The only difference that I can see is that they are generally bigger. Around 8-15lbs is the ones that I have seen. Hopefully somebody with a little more knowledge about different breeds can help ;) |
besides looking alot alike there temperments are not the same at all silkys noses are longer some are bigger mine is 9 pounds |
Are silkies better with children? How are there temperments different? Which is more calm?Do they get along with yorkies well? Thanks |

Silkies are larger and have shorter coats. IMO, not nearly as cute. As puppies they would be difficult to tell apart. |

in the breed standard you read it says there snappy with children i have never ever seen one like that silkys LOVE people and children they are sturdy loveable never snappy BUT if you can get passed the puppy hyperness and stubborness til there about 2 then you will have the perfect dog my silky is great with the gunieapig where brownie wants to eat it silkys are forever stubborn where is pretty much they will do something when they wanna do it if you were to own a silky and yorkie you would see the difference its kinda hard to explain there very loveable |
Thanks for the comments. I I was just curious because Daisy is eight pounds (she was supposed to be 5-6lbs) and other yorkies I have seen in person are much smaller. I was just wondering if the breeder may have fooled me and if she might be a silky terrior because of her size? |
there are tons of purebreed yorkies here that are larger including my brownie 8 pounds is one pound over the standard |
I think a silky has a bigger bone structure, a longer nose, shorter legs and a longer body. I think we got fooled with Missy!*! |
I was just wondering, not that it matters, because my baby is the best!! |
Kathleen, I have a Daisy too who is 8 pounds. She is 7 1/2 months old How old is your Daisy?? Penny :aimeeyork |
My Daisy is a year and five months. As soon as I can figure out how to make my pics smaller, I will post some of her. |
i just looked at this site and my yorkie looks just like a silky he is 8lbs w large ears and a longer snout but his pedigree states he is a yorkie???? |
