Zylkene Has anyone tried Zylkene for a calming agent for their Yorkie. It's supposed to be an all natural, mothers milk, capsule. We have a very stressful road trip coming up & my Vet recommend it. She said it's 100% safe with no side affects. Thanks |
I would try it before the trip encase there is a bad reaction or if it doesn't work. |

My husband retired this past January. Since then our little 2 years old boy has not had to stay alone much at all. He stayed in his tent while I was gone during the day when my husband worked. He loved his tent, would go in it on his own. Now, if both of us leave he is real hesitant to go in. When we come back, he's pushing at the zipped mesh door to get out. My daughter lives in Fl. 700 miles from us. We are driving there in a few days. Our baby has been there several times & has done very well, staying in his tent with no anxiety. She now has a brand new built house in a different neighborhood. This will be all new & different for our boy. I know I can't just arrive there & expect him to be put up & everyone leave for meals or whatever they want to do. I'm very nervous about this trip so my Vet said we could try Zylkene to see if it helps him settle in a little quicker. Sorry this is so long. Thank you so much for your response |

I have tried a small dose of Melatonin on mine and it has worked. |
In addition to the medicine and/or sprays--Maybe even though not easy for you, but he'll stay more comfortable and relaxed if you can remain matter-of-fact and calm in the midst of chaos, yes...??!! I'd also keep him close and talk to him about what he's seeing, etc. |
Update on Ruger's Florida trip. He did excellent! The only problem we have is when we stop to go pee. He starts crying as soon as we slow down & turn into the gas station or rest area. He does his business real well, but cry when one of us walks into the rest area restroom. His eyes are as big as saucers, he wines, cries, shakes. It's so sad. We stay real calm and talk to him. We did give him the Zylkene 3 days before we left and continued on our stay with our daughter. He did excellent in my daughters new house he hasn't been in before. It's a beautiful house and he didn't even think about peeing in it. He's great with potty outside. We did leave him twice for 3 hours each. Came back and it appeared he did great in his tent. He was more than ready to get out lol. And we did take the Zylkene apart & let him lick it. He loves it. Not really sure if it calmed him much, but he is a really active Yorkie anyway. Thanks to all that has responded with great advice. |

aww so happy that Ruger did well during your trip! Kind of curious about his tent. It sounds like a cute little "home away from home "for him! :) |
