When we got there, Teddy's skin was really red and swollen. The vet gave him a shot of benadryl and although he was improving, she was concerned so gave him a shot of steroid (dexamethasone). He has to continue the benedryl for the next several days.
This is almost an exact repeat of the allergic reaction he had back in August. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...-reaction.html
I really don't know what caused it. He was in bed both times. The vet asked me if I used anything new like fabric softener etc but we haven't. He did have a bath this afternoon, and I'm wondering if it is the shampoo. I've used it before, but maybe he is sensitive.
Keep my little Teddy in your thoughts - I'm so upset, this is very scary when this happens. |
OMG, OMG, Cathy the exact same thing happened to Miss Mini this morning, I gave her a benadryl as I was going out the door to rush to the vet...dear lord she rubbed her eyes raw, neck swollen - lymph nodes swollen, wheezy congested sounding breathing...just got back from the from picking her up, she stayed the day with an IV, they gave her a shot of antibiotics, cleaned the rawness, sent me home with an eyedrop and oral steroids and of course benadryl.
To make matters worse ITS MY FAULT...I took her and Miss Mia to the groomer late Saturday afternoon because Miss Mia has longer silky hair thats always getting matted up from playing with Mini...shes to squirmy for me to groom her yet, so I sent Mini (I usually groom her myself) for company....totally forgot to tell her Miss Mini is allergic to everything and hypoallergenic shampoo ONLY, no conditioner or smelly stuff...totally forgot. When I got home yesterday afternoon I smelled the perfume and checked her out and panickly gave both her and Mia a bath. Changed the sheets etc., all seemed to be fine...till this morning...
I'm so sorry your baby is going through this too, I will definitely include him in my puppy prayers tonight, you are probably spot on with the shampoo...I have to use hypoallergenic everything around here with Miss Mini cuz if she isn't allergic to it today- she will be tomorrow....
Give Teddy a sympathy treat for me...poor baby...
