Joey was 12 weeks when I got him, and his breeder told me is was ok to bath him once a week, I'm sure she had just bathed him because he was spanking clean and had a little bow. Some people have had success with certain human hair products, but they do have lots of products especially made for longhaired breeds. It's important not to use human shampoos though as they have a different pH, and can result in a yorkies hair looking fried over time, human hair is much more acid, so it needs a different pH to clean properly. Other products such as conditioners don't seem to matter. The main thing Joey's breeder told me regarding shampooing is to rinse thoroughly, if you ever see white flaky skin, you haven't been rinsing enough. Always test bath water with the inside of your arm, not your hand, which can take much hotter water. Puppies can't tolerate water that is too hot, and the water should feel tepid not hot, always error on the cooler side.
