Sometimes they need the nutrical when they're not eating enough small meals per day and to prevent hypoglycemia, but you don't want to give too much either. Believe me from first hand experience, it's much easier to prevent hypoglycemia than trying to get a dog to recover from a hypoglycemic episode. At least that was the case with Miko.
