Hi Abbeysue and Welcome! Just had to tell you... I had a red toy poodle named Daxton - Dax for short - for 15 years. He passed away last April. Love the name you picked!
And to answer your question... I think I'm in the minority here so don't speak up often on food issues. Tatum (my Yorkie) does not get ANY table food. She eats her dog food and dog treats. We had such an issue with Dax when I lived next door to my grandparents who watched him when I was at work because they fed him off the table all the time. When I moved away from them, Dax weighed 15 pounds! He had knee problems because of the excess weight - he was only supposed to weigh about 7 pounds. The vet put him on a diet right away and once he got back down to a good weight, his other problems went away. I know that the people here feed their Yorkies all kinds of food as regular meals and as treats but we're sticking to straight dog food. I've also noticed that Tatum never begs at the table and I can even sit on the couch with her in my lap and eat anything and she'll never even give it a second glance. Use your best judgement but if you do "people food", try to keep it healthy.
