I would definitely get the vets help to start off with. I watched a few times and am now able to do them myself. I was terrified more than poor Punkin at first - but after you learn it is so easy. Punkin doesn't need her nails trimmed very often. She walks a lot on pavement and that helps keep them trimmed down.
The vet here charges $20 (+ 14% tax) ...so even $12 sounds great!
