But surely many people who "have just one litter" do not have the health checks etc that would set them apart from BYBs I accept readily they don't make a profit as breeding usually costs more than a litter can make.

I think the difference in some peoples eyes.... is having a litter is something you would do for love or to procreate your puppy because you feel it's a great way to share the qualities - I sure can't say anything is wrong with that !!

But I think there is something very wrong when we have so many dogs needing homes being killed in shelters every year surely breeding should be left to Good breeders who know what they are doing and hopefully will be breeding for the good of the breed not for any other reason. If we had no dogs in shelters etc I would say I had no objection to "only one litterers" but the fact is we are over run and in danger of killing off entire breeds by our casual approach to flooding the markets with more and more dogs.
