Lots of people put it off until they realize that their little one is matted to the skin and the first professional grooming ends up being a negative experience for both the dog and owner (and the groomer, too).

I think I cut Brandy's hair the first time about 7 or 8 months. I've never let her hair get longer than maybe 3 inches. She's kinda wavy so she just seems to get bushy and messy looking so no drop coat for her. I got Titan at 9 months old and he already had straight long hair (maybe 6-7 inches) and I've never cut his hair other than sanitary areas, around feet, and just tidy up the ends a bit. How long you wait before cutting hair may depend on your dogs coat. Just don't wait if you find he is getting matted.

Thanks he does seem to be getting matted close to the skin. I brush him but it doesnt seem to help. I think I need to get a new brush.
