I am crying for the situation of mommy and Yorkie but in my opinion, mommy got carried away. Why wasn't she checking on her baby when she got him free? That would have been my FIRST priority. Was there blood? It didn't sound like it, in my understanding that is what sets most people off, blood.
You never know what you will do or how you will react until you actually get into a situation. I can SAY that I would have stopped beating that dog when he let go of my baby but would I? I like to think so. I think the mommy was wrong to go on and on. If the dog wasn't defending himself, and that's the way it sounded, why didn't she realize it?
I think there were wrongs on both sides, beginning with the Bull terrier being loose. When my kids fight I try to get to the bottom of how it started so I can show them how to prevent it next time. These dogs can't talk and the story I read apparently didn't say what the boys story was. As someone else said could the Yorkie have been defending his territory? It doesn't sound from the hurts the Yorkie suffered that the Bull Terrier was trying to kill him. And if something that much bigger than me tried to grab me in it's mouth, I don't think I would be holding still. Which would compound the injuries. I wouldn't know the intentions of something that suddenly grabbed me up.
How long does it take to strangle something? If the Yorkie owner didn't have control of herself enough to know the dog wasn't fighting back, how could she have been in such a frenzie when she didn't know how badly her baby was hurt? Possibly the Yorkie owner didn't realize the dog wasn't fighting back because the Bull owner was fighting to get her loose? Again the story didn't covered it.
Maybe the best way to handle the situation is for the Bull Terrier owner to subtract the cost of her dog from the total bills of the Yorkie and both of the owners let it go. |
