My husband never objected if the kids came into our room when they had a nightmare, even if neither of us got a lot of sleep. And he's never objected to having our puppy in the bed either. He loves her as much as I do and it wouldn't cross his mind to make me unhappy by separating us and making me listen to my furbaby howl just so he can do things his way. In effect you're putting your significant other's happiness ahead of your own, and it should really be the other way around.[/
Well..there are several factors here. Skin babies and fur babies are two different things. I would hope you and your spouse would be able to differentiate between the two and that skin babies are human and fur babies are dogs. Love for a dog and love for a human ARE two different things. I think that many problems on this board could be solved by simply treating dogs like what they are...dogs. That doesn't mean abuse, holding back affection etc. It just means that dogs are animals..not matter how much we love them, dress them up, feed them expensive dog food, push them in strollers, or carry them in baby carriers....at the end of the day they are canines and our human babies are our own flesh and blood. My husband (the one that won't allow the dogs to sleep in our bed) could win Father of the Year hands down! He's the most patient, loving, giving father I've ever seen. He was the one actually who liked our kids sleeping in bed with us more than me. Leary of him? Emphatically and respectfully not. Just because we realize that dogs are animals and not people..and treat them as such..doesn't mean we are unloving owners. Thanks for hearing me out. |
Very well said. I totally agree. Wookie and Zoie are not even allowed into my bedroom because it's "master's room". So it's a priviladge for them to be in there.. and when they are allowed in there, it's sleepy time.
On occasion i let them in there on my bed to hang out, but it's rare. If i'm in the bedroom, Wookie stands in the door way either waiting for me to tell him come in or waiting for me to come out. IT works great for us
