I think that many problems on this board could be solved by simply treating dogs like what they are...dogs. That doesn't mean abuse, holding back affection etc. It just means that dogs are animals..not matter how much we love them, dress them up, feed them expensive dog food, push them in strollers, or carry them in baby carriers....at the end of the day they are canines and our human babies are our own flesh and blood. My husband (the one that won't allow the dogs to sleep in our bed) could win Father of the Year hands down! He's the most patient, loving, giving father I've ever seen. He was the one actually who liked our kids sleeping in bed with us more than me. Leary of him? Emphatically and respectfully not. Just because we realize that dogs are animals and not people..and treat them as such..doesn't mean we are unloving owners. Thanks for hearing me out.
I understand what you're saying. Everyone has different beliefs. My boyfriend also didn't want Ferdinand sleeping in our bed. He slept in our bed for 2 nights and he said he didn't want him in there anymore. However, I do know that if we had kids, and they had a nightmare or whatever, he would be totally fine with them sleeping in our bed. You're right, a dog is a dog, and a human baby is our blood. I do treat my dog as a child, but it's in a different way than I would treat a "real" child.

At the end of the day, just because my bf doesn't want Ferdi to sleep in our bed doesn't mean he loves him any less. It's just preference.

However, I do know some people who cannot have skin children that really do treat their dogs as though they are their skin children. And that's totally fine.
