Even so, most don't. Walmart is the worst for not even looking at the back. Every time someone does, I always tell them thank you for doing so. This inevitably leads to them saying how mad some folks get when thay do ask. Stupid people. If they only realized.

I do the same thing. And some people actually have the nerve to say "this card is not valid until you sign it." I usually get pissy and say "My ID has my signature on it, you can get it there." They usually argue and I always say "LOOK, I used to work for a bank- I've had my card stolen and forged twice - I'm not signing it... if you don't want to take it, I'll take my business elsewhere." I'm sorry, but picture ID is way safer than a signature IMO - duh!
I rarely have someone ask for my ID - even after they see the "SEE ID." So when they do ask, I always thank them for asking.
