I don't use clippers - I use scissors with my fingers as a guide. I give Ferdinand a chew toy and he sits still the whole time. He doesn't like me going near his ears, but after about 2 times, he was fine. I only use electric clippers for his butt so I can trim it really short.
He used to be totally terrified and it took us almost all day also. But now that I just use scissors and I give him a chew toy, he's fine. I also tell him "good boy" and give him treats periodically throughout the process so he learns to be nice.
