I'm the same way but is because I had allreay a bad experience with my Pheobe so I do it my self, it will take time, I don't use the table, I train Pheobe to lie in my lap, turning the body from side to side, I also don't give her a chewie or a toy, she needs to understand that this is a serious time. Praise him calmly for every few seconds that he is calm and cooperative.And don't ever let him convince you to put down the comb,brush or clippers when he says so, that only teaches him that if he squirms and struggles, you'll stop, also how is you project your energy, it is calm,assertive, not nervous or insecure, dog can pick up that energy.
