There are little magnetic card readers that crooks put in the ATM machines or gas stations that copy your magnetic strip and they can recreate your actual card. This happened to me - i had my card, but they had used a card at the store.
That sucks that this happened. Call the vendors that have recurring monthly charges and explain your situation - that way you wont get charged extra fees.
