I would say you might check into your local petsmart or other training classes -it sounds like the dog is definately dominant and needs someone to take charge. I have a new baby -who is 4 mo's and terrorizes my 2 year old yorkie (she has scabs on her head when you pet her b/c of the baby's teeth). Some good training to show her appropriate/acceptable behavior and also reinforce who is in charge-would be good for the little volcano.
I have to feed mine separately, which was hard b/c my two year old munches all day-and food was left out-but initially, they had to learn who's bowl is who's so i could see how much the baby was eating-and try and get her on a potty schedule. You might look into bully sticks instead of stuffed animals. mine devour those into peices in minutes-also the kongs are good, they have these little sticks you can put into them and they will be busy for hours.
Having a puppy is HARD work-it seems like the first one is easy, then the 2nd one is a hellian.... for me anyways. Our weekely puppy training class has been a god-sent. It helps get energy out and also the instructors are on-hand to interact and show apporpriate behavior and how to use positive reinforcement to get the behaviors you want.
good luck! keep us posted. I know it's rough-but it gets better with time , patience and understanding. (they feed off of your energy) |
