I probably would have reacted the smae as you. I bet if you call her and just tell her first off throwing a shoe at her puppy could kill it, and second you could probably tell her by hitting the puppy she is only going to make things worse. The poor puppy is probably peeing all over due to submissive behavior. I hope you are able to get thru to her and hopefully she gives you the puppy to keep.
