Hi,

He just started holding it on his own. I used to lock him in the bathroom with potty pads at our old house, we had hardwood floors and didn't want him to ruin them. But now we just leave him loose and he just holds it on his own. I come home almost every day for lunch, so he's usually just holding it for four hours. But every now and then I have to work through lunch or run errands and he holds it just fine.

Try penning him up with potty pads and a bed. Use an X-Pen, or a bathroom, or laundry room. Maybe put his crate with a bed in an x-pen and line the rest with potty pads.
