My twelve pounder can hold it all day while I'm at work, it's about 9 hours. But boy does he run to go out when I get home. He's not crated, he holds it on his own. I come home for lunch almost all of the time, but I miss it every now and then. He's two, and it took him until he was about a year and a half. My 4.5 pounder can hold it, he just doesn't.
There's hope for him!
