Of course I agree with you and everyone else. Forget them. At Petco and Petsmart you can wait and watch while they cut their nails. I always do that. It's quick and painless.
Next time you take him to the vet, ask him to pull the hair out of his ears.
As for cutting the hair off his bottom, Petsmart or Petco will give him a "sanitary" (as I've heard it called) right in front of you, also.
I groom my dogs myself, because I couldn't stand their unhappiness at being at other people's mercy.
I got some good clippers, and just started experimenting. At first they weren't great do's, but now they are great, and people ask me where I get them done. However, I do keep them short, except for their heads, because we live out in the country with too many foxtails, burrs, etc. And, they are great for me, never afraid, and I know I would never hurt them, and they know that. With clippers, you can go right over thei private parts and everything. It's easy!
