Default Ears question

I've read here that floppy ears is a genetic fault. That's strange. I didn't realize that. My girl's ears were almost standing when we bought my second pup. Then, they would play by biting each other's ears and dragging each other around by the ears. After awhile, Grace's ears never would totally stand. They stand 1/2-way, if you can visualize. I just assumed it was from all the biting of and dragging by the ears when she was a pup.

Am I wrong? All of her pups' ears are standing (I keep in close contact with the people who bought her puppies). Of course, the stud's ears were standing, so possibly the pups got his genes, if in fact it IS a genetic trait.

Thanks for the input.
