Default Blood panel before neutering or not?

I'm getting Howie neutered in the near future (hoping his baby teeth will fall out soon, so I can neuter him sooner than later) and I've read a LOT about having a blood panel done. I really want to. The only thing that is making me hesitate is the blood panel cost as much as the neuter itself ($150). I wouldn't mind so much if it were an extra say, $50 but I feel like $150 is a lot. Does anyone agree? But, I also want to know for sure that he has no conditions that will harm him while being under. These are the decisions I hate.

Please tell me your stories of having a blood panel vs. not. The good and the bad. I have read about one person who found out that there was something wrong with their baby's liver; any other stories? Thanks in advance.
