Plane which airline?

I am new to owning a yorkie. My other dog is a cocker spaniel about 28 lbs. I find myself being a little extra protective (ok...a LOT more protective ) over maggie because she is so tiny. One thing we thought about before getting a pup was how much we were traveling. we decided to wait until 2006 was at a close to get her..which is why she was a christmas puppy. we just had too much traveling to do last year with our wedding being out of state and all. so...with that being said, we will probably take a couple of trips this year to NY and TX to visit family and I just CANNOT leave maggie behind. I would be a nervous wreck leaving her with someone. we usually have one of my 2 best friends watch the doggies for us but I just can't leave maggie. I am not planning any trips until summer b/c my daughter is in school, but once the time comes to book the trips, I need to know which airline would let me carry her on. I know with all the heightened security and stuff it is probably a lot harder. I remember a few years back, I was on a plane with a lady who had her dog as a "carry on". but I haven't seen that in years (since 9/11) and don't know who allows it these days. anyone have any idea? I would never want to put her under the plane. so carry on would be the only option for me, I think.

thanks, once again, for your help.
