it shouldn't be a work out to get it to hold the hair. It should be pretty flat and stiff so the heat is evenly distributed. When i straighten my hair i pull in sections, and kind of lift the hair with a brush or comb and then slide the straightener down the hair. And def. use the spray on protectors before.
it won't way the hair down and it does help protect.
Sounds like that seller might have ripped you a little bit. Research the Chi. They start about 100 and go up, but i had the CHi turbo and it didn't really do anything better than the base line Chi model. I promise, this thing does wonders.

i am not a fan of the sleek line or paul mitchel. I found a brand called LANZA that is awesome for keeping hair healthy with all the damage done. Trust me, i like color and this stuff has kept my hair awesome. Also, some stuff called HALO something i believe, i started using is pretty good.
