it should be the same at the whole lenghth. when i close mines it closes straight and flat all the way across. i agree that chi is one of the best of not theee best. i bought a paul mitcheel since my sis in law is training at the paul mitchell school for hair, and so i listened to her and bought the starightner and the hair shampoo and comditioner and products, uhhh its so gross the starightner just gets way to hot and doesnt really starighten the hair, it flattens it but its not paper thin like me last starightner would do, and the shampoo makes my hair feel oily so i went back to the salon and they said use less, and i use less and it feel like buildup and i havent washed my hiar for days. so it just sits there. i love chi though i also had a cricket one and it worked great but when my hair was shorter. as it got longer it didnt starighten well
