I had a 2 1/2 pound yorkie and also gave a small one 2 1/2 pounder to my mother in-law for company and love, "Benji." We never had any problem with them - health wise. Benji did like to tease hth toads in the backyard from time to time in Florida and would have to get a shot of atropine. Mom would always check for the toads and not see any, but Benji could always find them. But we never had any health problems. They both lived out their years and just died of old age. So to me - small size does not matter.
