Embarassed Information on whelping

Dear Kemfy,
I live here in GA and have shown, breed starting back in the late 70's. Yes. five pounds is a nice size for breeding - normal. What size is your male? That is the question. Maybe you think your female is small, since you might be comparring her to your male. I would get a vet that specialized in the smaller breeds. You will be better off with someone that knows about smaller dogs. They can check her to see if she looks like she will whelp okay on her own. I would also get a book about breeding and raising small dogs - one is from Mayfair line of yorkies breeder - Ann Seranne, called "The Joy of Breeding Your Own Show Dog." ISBN # 0-87605-413-0. I know you won't be showing, but the information inside is what you are looking for. It tells you step-by-step what to do and what signs to look for in case of an emergency. Best of luck.
