Is your Vet sure it is originating from the hip and is he/she familiar with Legge-perthes? It will show up on the xray if the Vet knows what it looks like.
Is the Vet sure it isn't the knee either a slipping patella or cruciate ligament?

Either the knee problems or Legge-Perthes can manifest itself even once the dog is no longer a puppy. LP usually will cause a problem at about 5 -7 months but it can become a problem over a year of age.
Any of these are correctible with surgery. LP is genetic.
