Hey Judy,
Wookie was on the leash about 4-5 months. Mainly because he is a crazy off the wall boy and I was so scared that he would go back to his old ways.
after 3-4 weeks we extended his leash and after about 2 months we started letting him have "free time". But if he started going crazy we put him back on the leash, and he pretty much started understanding.
But he got the potty training down pretty dang quick.. i'd say a good 3-4 weeks and he got it down. We kept him on it for more reasons than that.
I still take wook out to potty randomly, just so he always knows that I am re-informing him that I always expect him to go outside to potty.
Wookie sleeps in a crate at night, because when they sleep with you in the bed, they think that they are equal to you, when they are not. You are the master. Plus, wookie would jump off, pee and jump back in bed.
But now if he needs to go, he whines at night... i dont get up rigth away, I tell him "shhh" or "be quiet", if he doesn't stop after a couple times then you know it's because he needs to potty. If he does stop, then he's just being a butt.
This is stuff i got straight from my trainer. I rave about him allll the time because he did such a great job. |
