I see no reason to change the max. weight of the standard, but I'd like to see the standard include a minimum weight of 4 lbs. (and I say that as an owner of a dog who is under three lbs).
However, that still would most definitely NOT stop the breeders who are delibately breeding for the extremely small sizes! That will only stop with the demand for them goes away.

BUT...Kenzie WAS one of those healthy as a horse, tough as nials, little dogs.
Now at age three she went for her yearly, to discover that she has brittle bones, they found a break in one knee, one forearm, and a crack in a vertrabrae. She had a major seizure at Xmas, and we nearly lost her.
After 3 years of perfect health she is going down hill and it is heart breaking.

This makes me sad to read.

Mazie has had a rough start in life, but at a little over a year, she has had NO health issues at all. The vet always pronounces her perfectly sound and hale, even though she seems so fragile to me. I hate to think of her bones becoming brittle so early in life.

Is there any way to help prevent this, do you know?
