ive had 7 yorkies all in all and i can honestly say not once did there size even enter my head when i got them, i picked each one on how i felt about them
in the uk most of the yorkies i see are on the large size so the larger sized ones are more normal here i think and you dont get strangers say what breeds that as they no its a yorkie.
my brandi is about 15 pound, tye is about 9 now he has lost his fatty tum and zac is about 10 now hes lost his fatty tum and i love them just the way they are but i still would if they were tiny, size doesnt matter they are all yorkies and full of love.
but saying that if this breed keeps getting smaller it will die out as there will be no females of breeding size left.
imo i think breed standard should be looked at again, the yorkie is the only breed i can think of that can come in so many sizes but is not included in the breed standard anymore.
breed standard should be about the health of the breed not just how it looks, breed standard has made some breeds unhealthy ie pug, and bulldog come to mind, a bulldog has been bred to have such a flat nose it has problems breathing and a head so large it cant give birth.
i love all sized yorkies and would of chose the yorkies i have even if they were tiny but i do think the breed standard should have a mininmum weight ie not under 3 or 4 pounds to protect the breed and to protect these tiny ones as it will stop these horrible breeders from breeding them.
