Both our girls were done without sedation....and yes the needle was larger than I expeted.....but one the stick was done it was over and no recovery time was needed. We paid too much for ours......so check with your local spca and shelters and low cost clinics....because we have found the price varies greatly!!!
If you pup is due for surgery for teeth cleaning or spay/neuter.....then that is a great time to have it done....but I would not sedate my girls just to microchip them.
